I hope to host a debate here between some prominent pantheists/deists (and at least one pandeist) to kick off May 15th.... Pandeism 20:38, 2 May 2010 (EDT)
- I plan to have a pretty deep discussion on whether pantheism and deism are reconcilable, beginning with a nailing down of what each of these theological theories requires, and proceeding from there to the usual subjects -- can we know if we inhabit a created Universe, is there a Creator, does it (can it, logically) intervene in goings-on on this planet, what is its nature (where is it?) -- all packed into one power-discussion.... but I need to be able to close the discussion to all but the pre-agreed participants (but, naturally, anyone who wants to have a side-discussion covering the same topics in a different page -- well nothing to stop that....)
Is that okay then? Pandeism 23:42, 3 May 2010 (EDT)
I am presuming it to be safe to move our discussion of the parameters of the discussion to be had to this user page. So let us begin, what are our topics and rules for debate? Here's the outline of topics I'd put up (with credit to Steve from World Deism for contributing some ideas):
Pantheism, Deism, and Pandeism
Topic 1: Is or was there a designer/creator of our Universe? Is such a concept reconcilable with pantheism?
Topic 2: Where is "God" now?
- Is God confined within the Universe; Is God our Universe [Pan]
- Does God contain and therefore transcend our Universe [Panen]
Topic 3: Is God "active"? Are there revelations or other interventions? Would true miraculous events require a God, even?
Re: Closed debate
When you say closed, do you mean for just a select group of your friends or colleagues? Generally, we try to make the debates open, but we can make an exception. What did you have in mind? Did you want to create a pro/con environment for it, or just do it on a discussion page? -- Brooks Lindsay (Talk) 21:23, 4 May 2010 (EDT)
- Most probably a discussion page with several subpages to break out particular issues. Pandeism 07:59, 5 May 2010 (EDT)
