Should everyone in the world speak the same language?

Contents

Background and Context of Debate:

People have often been thinking about how diificult it is to have different countries speaking different languages. They say it would just be easier to have one universal language. But the classic comeback is that this is not practical or realistic.

Argument 1

Yes

It would make it much easier for the world to communicate.

If everyone in this planet spoke the same language, people would be able to travel from country to country speaking the same language. In today's modern world, there are over 200 languages, and that's a lot of languages to learn if you travel around the world. Communication would be so much easier if only everyone just spoke the same language.

No

Most languages have been spoken by generations of people for thousands of years. Getting rid of all except one would be really tough and cultures would be destroyed.

Argument 2

Yes

It may take a while for everyone to get used to the change, but after a few years, everyone would get used to it.

No

It would be far too complicated to get every single person on this planet to speak just the one language.

Argument 4

Yes

No

Argument 3

Yes

It would be simple deciding which language to get everyone to learn; the most spoken language.
English does have a lot of words from other languages.

No

Many languages and cultures would argue over which language should be the universal one.
English does have a lot of words from other languages.

No

Many languages and cultures would argue over which language should be the universal one.
