Pro

  • Law schools enables public service, social policy.
  • Law school is gateway to higher pay/lifestyle.
  • Law school is a good way to pursue specific subjects. Some may be drawn into the law as a result of interest in particular subjects (e.g., the environment, intellectual property).
  • Law schools is a good way to help people. Many are primarily motivated by the prospect of helping people, as attorney are all about defending people or corporations in court.
  • Law is a field of study offering a range of career options. "Why do you want to go to law school?": "If you don't know where you're going, when you get there you'll be lost." Yogi Berra"law is a field of study that offers the recipient a wide range of career options, each requiring different skills but also possessing common characteristics. The options are endless in terms of practice areas and work environments. Lawyers might find themselves arresting a ship or zoning a playground, working independently in their home or with others in a high rise corporate office. Lawyers can practice law by helping clients plan to avoid problems, by solving problems once they develop, by representing and counseling businesses in a particular industry, by representing individuals sharing a common status or problem and by appearing (or not appearing) in court."
  • Legal practice exercises a wide array of skills. Skills generally required include analytical thinking, creative writing, research, communication, counseling, problem solving, negotiation and the ability to work independently.
