Globalization is a phenomena that has spread rapidly over past decades, particularly in the 1990s and in the 21st century. It entails an increase in trade and capitalism internationally. While this may have great benefits, many are concerned that it is the cause of generating significant discontent in many regions of the world. In the Middle East, concerns have been raised that globalization's discontents are turning to terrorism.

• Globalization may help education, but this does not cut terrorism. "Education, Poverty and Terrorism: Is There a Causal Connection?", Journal of Economic Perspectives. Fall 2003: "our review of the evidence provides little reason for optimism that a reduction in poverty or an increase in educational attainment would meaningfully reduce international terrorism. Any connection between poverty, education and terrorism is indirect, complicated and probably quite weak.
