The global poverty portal is designed for The People Speak's Global Debates, taking place in October 2009. The portal is a place where participants can link to resources on the event and topic.

This debate has generated notable attention recently, as nearly half of the world's population lives in poverty, with significantly lowered quality of life, standards of education and literacy, health, and life-expectancy.
Many wonder whether climate change could ever impact as many people, and therefore whether it is important for the UN and other governing bodies to prioritize poverty over climate change, when/if a choice between the two must be made.
