Should the ten commandments be displayed in country courthouses?

Background and context

Some courthouses and courtrooms in the United States have had the ten commandments on their walls. Some object on the basis that the ten commandments of religious in nature, and thus that the act of placing them on a state courthouse violates the separation of church and state. Others argue that the ten commandments were essential to the foundation of democracy and the writing of constitutions.
